How Has Covid-19 Impacted Studying in China?

Date:2020-07-14

2020 has been a year like no other and in an unfortunate way, there has been no country or work industry that has been left untouched by the spread of the Covid-19 virus as it impacts almost everyone on the planet on an unprecedented scale. And almost everyone has either gone under lockdown or required to do some sort of social distancing. With regards to the current global health situation, we’re going to look at the impacts at the very heart of our industry – studying in China.

Due to the virus, many countries have closed their borders and limited their flights as international movement and the global economy takes a dramatic downturn. And in China this means that unfortunately international students even with valid legal student visas will be unable to gain entrance into China for the coming semester, please keep updated with official sites and sources, as changes are made according to the current situation.  So what does that mean, well, whether you’re an international student lucky to be still in China or outside, it’s likely that the start/resumption of your semester has been postponed and delayed with the time schedule dependent on Covid-19. And as some universities try to find solution, courses and programs may revert online as a means of continuing your studies. You will need to check with your university to see if this is the case.

And what for those who are interested in studying in China and have seen their hopes and plans for this year dashed away, well, there is always next year and we should not stop planning for the future. And here at UniEdu we’re launching a foundation course backed by several high standard universities in Sichuan Province and this can be studied in groups online. You may ask yourself what is this online foundation course and what is its purpose?

The foundation course is going to be the future of China admissions, it’s designed to help Chinese universities find the right candidates but it’s main focus is on helping international students prepare for degree study in China. Successful participants will be ensured of admission into one of our partner universities in Sichuan and will get an increased chance of getting a scholarship, and crucially the completion of the foundation course will reward credits that will be calculated towards your degree. This is a group preparatory course that will allow you to meet with potential classmates and share your experiences together. Bachelor’s degree, Master’s, PHD and language students will be grouped according to their degree level. It’s also a great opportunity to meet with your future teachers and mentors. The extensive preparatory course will cover Chinese language learning, Chinese culture, and all you need to know about preparing to come to Sichuan e.g. visa procedures. The foundation aims to be the best pathway to degree study in China and because of the current situation it’s going to be delivered online so you can join and learn from the safety of your own home.
